Ear discharge is connected to inflammation of the outer ear, or of the middle ear if there is an opening in the ear drum through which the middle ear contents run out.
If this problem is connected with middle ear infection, complete examination of the ENT region is needed (see above), to discover possible associated conditions that have caused the opening in the ear drum.
For the purpose of early detection of changes in other parts of the ENT region (sometimes a patient visits a physician because of ear problems, and then accidentally a change in the larynx is found which did not cause any symptoms yet, but in this way early detection and treatment of some malignancies is made possible) complete ENT examination is needed.
