Nose dripping is in most cases due to an inflammatory process. Inflammation can be the result of infective, allergic but also non-infective, non-allergic causes. A complete ENT examination is needed.
A running nose is in most cases the result of an infection and/or allergy. If it stops within a few days, generally it does not need special treatment, but if it lasts longer, for several weeks or months, the child has to be examined and properly treated by an ENT specialist.
It is not normal that your child walks around with secretion running from his nose, which it often wipes off with his sleeve. In these children it is necessary to also examine the middle ear, for it is possible that secretory otitis, so-called “silent” otitis media (otitis media with effusion), co-exists.
